Sasha's Story

Sasha was rescued in the middle of the night with her other siblings, when the owner leaving town threatened to euthanize them if someone didn’t take them. He left town quickly, dumping them on the other side of town in the rain. A wonderful dog lover took them in and let them stay on her outdoor balcony until someone agreed to foster any of the dogs.

It’s called a “Foster Fail” when the foster falls in love with their foster dog and adopts it. That is the happy ending here for Sasha. (In the photo is the wonderful young man, Raul, who helped translate our “co-op” website into Spanish.)

These three siblings did not need to be shuffled around by an irresponsible owner who didn’t care about them. He cared about the part-Husky mom he didn’t want to sterilize, so let her out and she subsequently had these cute puppies no one wanted. They managed to survive and get by on the street because of their cuteness. But it was pouring rain and they had no where to go!

Relatively quickly, a new online “Animales de Sayulita” WhatsApp group came together to try to help these stranded dogs. A fundraiser was organized to get funds to take care of all three.

(Sasha feeling safe)

Lacey volunteered to foster them all (temporarily). So three bouncy puppies were couch surfing at her home while waiting for more foster homes or adopters to show up. There are not many hands-on volunteers in the hot, humid summers of Sayulita. Lacey and Raul had their hands full.

Soon there was enough money from the GoFundMe to take all three dogs to the vet to be de-parasited, tested, vaccinated.

When leaving the vet with the pups, another homeless dog in pain – now named “Chop”– took the opportunity to jump into the back of Lacey’s car.

(Smart dog! Now he is being treated for Erhlichia and his head injury at the same vet and is adoptable.)

Sasha had flyers and ads posted for her own self while looking for a permanent home. But she definitely made it known she loved going everywhere with Lacey and Raul. Eventually, Sasha found her way into her Foster Failure Lacey’s heart to stay and be adopted.

We are still looking for other fosters, sponsors, and adopters for Loki, Balta, Chop – all rescued in the same 24 hours.

Please Donate (if you can).
